Teenagers and their parents often argue about music. Think about discussions you might have had. Now, write to convince your parents to listen to your favorite music for a change.


After completing the writing assignment, students were allowed the remainder of class time to work on their research projects.

Today students read background information about the Age of Romanticism. Students read portions of the drama Faust in the literature textbook (pages 870-896).
After reading students completed writing option number 2 on page 897 of the textbook. This assignment was placed on their blog - title the post: Story of Ambition.

Students used the remaining time to work on research projects which are due December 5, 2006.

Today we reviewed the test results of the SCPT given August 30th. Students were given copies of the data to determine their weaknesses and strengths in the reading clusters that will be tested on the FCAT.


Students practiced pages 105-106 of the wordskills workbooks - determining meaning using context clues, prefixes and suffixes.


Wordskills workbook Unit 10 Section A was completed and turned in.


Students were then given the remainder of class time to work on research projects.

We discussed the things that should be included in the abstract:

1. The guiding question
2. Sources used during research
3. A summary of what is included in the presentation

All of these things must be in the abstract. In addition to the abstract, a works cited page must be attached (use proper MLA format).

The remainder of class time was used to work on research projects - these projects are due December 4, 2006.

Students will study the Shakespearean sonnet on pages 815-816, and complete Thinking Through Literature page 817 of the literature textbook.

Students then added a discussion topic to their blogs using NiceNet.

Continued work on research project. The class will go to the Book Fair Thursday during class.

Class News


Book Fair!!!! - Thursday students will be going to the Media Center where books will be on sale for Book Week. Students are encouraged to bring money to purchase any titles they might be interested in having.

Research Project --- Students will conduct research on a selected topic. Students have already selected their topics and created a guiding question. The project is due December 4 and will be 20% of their comprehensive final exam.

College/Career Project --- Students will begin a journal in which they collect information and resources to help prepare them for their futures after graduation.

Today we completed our reading of Dante's Inferno. For homework, we will create a visual of Dante's description of Hell and the different levels. Our depiction will be due Monday, with the explanation. We used the reainder of class time to review our progress report for the class and collect further research for our projects.

c. Compare/contrast the women of the Middle Ages, Persia and West Africa.

3. Now read Dante's Inferno pages 732-747.
4. Complete Thinking Through the Literature on page 747. Place responses on your blog. Title the post: Charon.

Today we read Tales of Anansi the Spider pages 651-656 of the literature textbook.
We then read The Tales of Ijtomi the Spider on pages 658-661. After reading both stories we completed the Thinking Through the Literature on pages 657 and 662 (Complete all questions).

These assignments were placed in the basket at the end of clasas.

Students read background information about West African Oral Literature, textbook pages 612-623. Then students answered the following questions:

a. Why do parts of U.S., Latin and Caribbean culture show West African influence?
b. What is a diviner?
c. What is a queen mother?
d. How were the lives of enslaved and freeborn people similar?
e. How were their lives different?
f. Judging from your knowledge of slavery in the Americas, how was early West African slavery different?
g. What are some functions of West African oral literature?
h. What elements do traditional West African religions share?

Today we completed pages 83-90 of the Wordskills workbook. Then we went on a MLA scavenger hunt. We had to locate the following types of books and write a works cited page using MLA format:

a. biography
b. novel
c. poem or short story from an anthology
d. personal interview
e. internet article


After we completed these assignments, we conduct further research on the internet for our research projects due December 4th.

Today we first read pages 564-571 in the textbook. Second we wrote a comparison between Persian and Arabic culture and the other cultures we have studied. Place this entry on your blog: title the post cultural comparison. Then we read The Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor. page 582-588. Lastly we completed qustions 5 and 6 on page 589 - this assignment was placed in the basket.

Today we read The Cat in the Hat. We discussed how the themes and characters are similar to those in Lord of the Flies. We entered our comparison paragraph on blogs: the post was titled The Cat vs the Flies. We then worked on FCAT writing samples: revising and editing our writing.

Today we started off with Tornado tv news. Now we are posting our nicenet entries to our blog. next were watching a movie about how to create a driving question for research projects. We then selected a topic and created a driving question for our research.
